Susan, that's what happened to me. I had the attacks right after my first
child was born and for 4 months. Stones did get stuck and I had to have
emergency surgery and was in hospital for 3 wks. I had gotten down to 79
pounds before the surgery. That was horrible pain...those attacks. The
spasms mimic the attacks somewhat except you do not have much of the pain in
the right back as the attacks were. They used to give me a shot of Demerol
and send me home (the ER). Anyhow, I learned to live with that pain and
that was 39 years ago and I still occasionally get those spasms. When I do,
the doc usually puts me on Carafate or something like that for a month or so
and then I am okay. I had the open surgery and back then it was done
differently than today. I was in a hospital that did not have a bathroom in
the room AND I had about 4 tubes coming out of me and had to hook them all
to a pole when going down the hall to bathroom. Everyone that peaked in my
room felt so sorry for the tiny little girl who they thought was terminal.
I still have the huge scar across the waistline. I had turned yellow from
the attacks. Never have been the same, but you adjust to that.
I cannot eat fast food either. I too am in the toilet after I do with
cramping and beads of sweat. I definitely do not go near fast food.
And like I said, this is 39 years later!
