Not being allowed to participate in graduation exercises would ruin his
life??? If the import of participation is that great, then why should
they be allowed to "ruin" her life either?

Assuming that the boy is the father, the effects on his life will extend
far beyond graduation exercises as he has a legal duty to provide child
support until the child is at least 18. The school administration has
no control over that matter, as it will be decided by the courts if he
doesn't make arrangements on his own. Will that "ruin his life"? Hard
to say, but if a guy doesn't want to pay child support, he shouldn't
father any children. (And, no, it's not just the woman's duty to take
preventive measures either.) Would you argue that when a guy gets a
girl pregnant unexpectedly, it's okay for him to duck out of the picture
and leave her to handle it on her own? I don't think so...
