Re: Laptop or not, that is the question

I use the laptop about half the time now that school is out. DD likes
to be upstairs (her room, her toys, the fridge) are all upstairs, so I
just work up there on the laptop so I don't have to sit and wonder what
she's up to. I have a spare pedal, headphones, and wireless
keyboard/mouse that I just leave up there and use with the laptop. I
sit outside and work at the patio table (when I can see the screen,
that is) if she's playing outdoors. It actually works out great,
because now with the wedding, I go to DD#1's house, which is several
hours away, and usually I stay more than a day, and I know everything
is working - I just download the voice files, grab the keyboard, mouse,
pedal, and all that is attached to it at the kitchen desk, throw it in
the briefcase with wheels (my office) and I'm not worrying about "did I
get everything?" because I have everything I would need to work
upstairs, so of course I'm okay. There are both kinds of cords in the
bag for hooking up to the internet in hotels.

The last hotel we stayed at, plugging in the wall didn't work, and
about the time we left, I saw a little card that said I had to go to
the front desk to get a wireless plug-in receiver or something like
that to get internet service (which was probably like what we had at
our last house for our wireless cable internet, but...would that be
HIPAA compliant)? I didn't bother, though. Luckily it was a weekend
and I didn't have to send anything back, just did it when I got home.

I used to be able to keep up with technology, but lately I feel like
DH's grandma must have felt when she had him come over and program the
VCR and show her how to use it. Either I'm getting old or living in a
cave. Maybe a bit of both.
