We had basically the same situation, but brought in another female dog
(luckily just a foster dog) instead of a cat. Our dog, who is ALWAYS
the submissive one and gets along with every animal she sees, which are
many because she visits Daddy at work all the time. We started hearing
these weird noises coming from her direction, especially when it was
time for them to eat. She actually growled, and a few times even
barked. Now this is a dog who has never done that, and she's 8 years
old. We had the other dog for 3 months, and the other dog never showed
a bit of aggression, never EVER reacted to her rudeness, but she never
got over it. Once the dog was placed in its new home, she went back to
being her sweet wonderful self again. I'd love to tell you that she'll
get over it, but mine didn't in 3 months. Had it been a male it might
have been different ?? but that was my experience with 2 female dogs
and a cat.
The cat, on the other hand, just hissed and swatted at the new one just
like the old one, and got the same response...a dumb look and ear
flopping--so basically nothing changed for her. My cat has no idea how
good her life is.
