When my friend's baby was in the NICU, that was the absolutely quietest
place I had ever been. They didn't want you to smile at them too much,
touch them, hold them very much, etc. so they could use all their energy
at growing and "finishing". That about drove us nuts but once they let him
out of the NICU, we got in all of our snuggling and holding!
