Houses in our neck of the woods are approaching those prices.
Basically, my husband and I don't expect to be able to pay off our
mortgage in our lifetimes, but we live in a neighborhood that we like,
we're getting the tax breaks of carrying a mortgage, and we're building
up equity to put into a nice condo when we retire and don't feel like
tackling yard work anymore. If we lived in someplace like San
Francisco, I don't imagine we could afford to buy the garage of some of
the homes I've heard about out there, so I try to count my blessings!
