Another thought I just had. I have a very old HEPA air cleaner from Sears that was around $100. It is not silent, as you hear the fan running, but it does a good job. Yes, you have to change the filter about every 3 months. I keep it for the times when my Sharper Image Ionic Breeze bites the dust. I keep one running by the Litter Maid cat box, and I think the HEPA filter does a better job than the Ionic Breeze.

If you do buy on eBay, be careful. I see there are a lot of people selling "Ionic Breezer" and other names similar to Ionic Breeze. They may be just fine, but I do know Sharper Image does honor their guarantee.

You can probably buy the same thing on eBay for under $100. Be warned, though, that these things are known to last a bout 6 months and quit. Be sure and keep the box to return it to Sharper Image.

That's good to know, I've thought about buying one for my house!
I have a friend who smokes three packs a day and has an Ionic Breeze, and when you walk in that house, you don't even smell cigarette smoke. However, it is a fairly small house.
