Christie,
When my daughter was a toddler (she's 10 now), I got her a tiny little desk
and chair and set it right next to my desk. While I worked, I gave her
plenty of paper and writing tools (pens, crayons, pencils, etc.) and would
give her "assignments" like copying the alphabet that I wrote out, or
copying her name, or pictures.
Of course, as a toddler it was mainly just scribbles, but after a while she
could actually write her alphabet and name before she was four, and was
beginning to read. At the end of kindergarten she had a 2nd grade reading
level.
Make learning fun, and keeps occupied. It kept her attention for a little
bit at a time; I know a toddler's attention span is limited, but she also
learned that while I was working, she either had to "work" or keep herself
occupied. At the time, my desk was in the living room so she didn't feel
lonely being in a separate room.
Good luck, it's definitely a blessing to be able to raise your child at home
and make money at the same time, but it's difficult and an adjustment. I
was going to say it gets easier as they get older, but that just brings up
new problems (Mom! I'm bored! I'm hungry! I tried to brush the cat's
teeth and she scratched me! (that was last week)). : )
