The first day is the hardest. It gets better when they get home and
are all excited to tell you everything they learned and did that day,
and who they made friends with. My youngest took applications for
about a week, though, to find her best friend. We almost doubled over
every day she came home and told us all of this.
My oldest really got to me, too. I had to wait on the side of the road
at a junction out in the middle of nowhere, and the bus met us there
(we did that so I could get to work on time). DD got out of the car,
didn't turn around to kiss me or anything, just hopped on that bus,
never looked back, and plopped down in the seat, sat down, looked
straight ahead, (never looked at me) and was grinning from ear to ear.
She was really ready to go to school!
So I started driving to work and things were blurry - my eyes were
leaking. My baby wasn't a baby anymore.
It'll be okay as soon as he gets home. We'll have to keep you laughing
until he gets home. <G>
