Re: Interesting view on fee increase

Oh OK. I'm not sure what the "fight" is about in the first place, actually. As an MT I expect to be paid well for doing good work. If I were hiring subs I'd expect excellent work and be willing to pay for it.

However, I will never agree that just good work is enough to guarantee job security. Countless numbers of MTs and others have lost jobs despite good work ethic. The fact it has not happened to you is fortunate. If it does, I expect to hear about it - as a matter of honesty - though I doubt we will. When you've been taught all your life to work hard, do good work, and that a business is reflected in the information leaving it (not slipshot, misspelled letters), it's very difficult to find out at some point there is nothing you can do short of prostituting yourself.

The idea that is only due to hard work is insulting to those who have
worked equally as hard, been just as reliable, and yet still lost the
work - it was nothing they did. That brings it down to luck. I consider
myself lucky, too. Without the net, I'd probably still be in some
office
where they now consider good employees a detriment - because they have
to pay them more.

And I do all my networking locally with MTs with whom I have been in
the same room, and I have my pick of work. Just goes to show you,
there's more than one way to skin the cat, huh? If you think that
running a business is a matter of luck, then I guess you'd better stay
as you are.
