Re: Duck and Cover South Floridians

Have a friend in TN who has pushed that idea, and she does live in a beautiful area. (Cindy, you notice how using an abbreviation solves your nonexistent spelling problem? <g>) Also have a friend in Austin pushing TX, but I suspect I couldn't handle the pseudo-cowboy thing--and roaches, I can get here. Also have daughter's boyfriend pushing Alaska so he isn't 3000 miles from his family, but I don't know if they actually pay you enough to live there to compensate for winter. (What--is it nice there about 2-1/2 months out of the year?)

Guess I should think about bringing in my orchids and wind chimes, huh? I'm also at the end of my pantry (though I do have the all-important unopened bottle of scotch), have to work tonight, and there's no way I'm fighting the paranoid crowds for the last can of baked beans. (Is there anything as ugly as a hurricane crowd in the WalMart? Oops--that would be the post-hurricane crowd at the Home Depot. . .) I still have a section of fence down from last year, so guess I'm saving a little effort there.

Before last year--when we had 3 storms in a row land in our front yard--we used to look forward to these storms. Anything up to a Cat 2 or so was just not a biggie, and I loved having several days of rain. Now, I'm afraid we're still too bruised from last year to enjoy it.

Happy hurricane party, Barbara.

This is not a major hurricane. It just developed very quickly and has been a bit unpredictable. It may be a category 1 hurricane by the time it hits, and the worst problem is going to be a LOT of rain. Fortunately we are on high ground (11 to 14 feet above sea level--veritable mountain down here). We will probably lose power for a while--good old FPL! There are no mandatory evacuations being issued. We will toss the pool furniture in the pool if the wind gets too strong--we are getting feeder bands here now. If you don't hear from me for a while you'll know FPL let us down again!
