In fact, the $100 fee is less than 5% of the total rent for the month. It's not hefty in relation to the rent. And the reason it's not a ridiculously small sum is because I'd rather they pay the rent on time than pay the late fee. Maybe out in the woods of Maine you can buy a decent cabin on 5 acres for $100,000 and rent it for $500 and be happy. You can't get a studio apartment in Los Angeles for that.
