I don't think it's compassion, I think it's good business sense to be able
to distinguish between deadbeats and people with paydays on the 1st, and
treat them accordingly. Personally, I think it would just make sense to
make rent due on the 5th for everybody (you can schedule your mortgage
payment on whatever date you like), and a lot of this whole problem would
just be eliminated.
