Re: Recommendations for donation to flood victims

Yes, me, too. SCOA, our Saluki rescue organization has set up a fund for
animal relief in the affected areas, and I will donate through that. There
was terrible suffering after Andrew and many animals killed. I was told
horses running in the storm ran into canals (which criss cross our area) and
drowned, or broke legs, etc. My daughter's mare ran into a tree in the dark
and broke her neck. Our other three horses were unscathed, but all the
horse feed and hay were absolutely drenched and destroyed, and it was days
before decent food came in. A friend of mine in North Florida got together
a trailer load of animal stuff and sent it down to us, and we distributed
it. One of the feed stores finally got things organized, and a distribution
point set up. Our horses looked at the hay (they have never been fed
anything but the best) and you could tell by their expression they weren't
sure whether it was edible or not--but it's all we had!
