Re: What, no one is interested in watching the corn grow?

I think it is because of sanitary reasons in the transport as well as the centers. I saw a shot yesterday of a shelter for animals as well with crates, cages, etc. Not being an animal person, I wouldn't be able to understand putting my life at risk because they couldn't come with me. Animals are very good at taking care of themselves when they have to. My sister (who is definitely an animal person) says it is instinct.

Especially after having survived the storm and flooding. What are these people supposed to do, leave their pets to starve, abandon them to heaven only knows what? I couldn't do that either; I can't imagine leaving my critters to their own devices after they've depended on me for their care since they were puppies/kittens. That's just cruel.

They did not take any guns away from any of us after Andrew. The police knew we might need them! Someone we knew of shot and killed someone who was trying to steal their generator. The police came, took the body away, and the people never heard any more about it. I did see on the news a day or two ago where they disarmed people in a nice, relatively undamaged home. They police left with the guns, but did not remove the people. I couldn't believe they took their guns away. It did not appear they had threatened anyone, but who can know for sure. I do not blame anyone who is not in a flood zone and who has a house in reasonable condition for refusing to leave. In another home they told someone they could not leave with their dog and the person told them they would have to shoot both him and the dog to remove them. I would not abandon my animals either.
