Re: What, no one is interested in watching the corn grow?

At least our house is basically flood proof - on a hill. We might get surrounded by water but if it gets to our door, never mind in the house, nobody for miles will have a home. If I had to evacuate temporarily I'd probably leave my cats in the house with plenty of food and water. Problem is what kind of plan can you have when everyone in area has same problem. It's one thing to have an emergency plan in place in case you have to leave town fast for a family emergency, quite another when everyone else has to evacuate too.

And I think many cats still have enough of the hunting instincts left to help them survive. Most dogs just don't. I doubt I could abandon a cat either, though, and cats who have lived their entire lives indoors probably are no better adapted than a dog. Makes me realize that I'd better put a really concrete evacuation plan into place, since we're in hurricane country as well.

I know. It would be hard to do it, but it would be more merciful to put a bullet in their head rather than to leave them to starve. I'd be more concerned for dogs than cats, as with cats you can leave food that will last, where many dogs will eat it all up on the spot.
