With all due respect, you are too close to see this objectively I think because of your personal experience. Just putting them in the confined, safe space doesn't equate cruelty or abuse to me. Now if the parents put them in there at 6 at night and left them there till noon the next day, it would be one thing. We don't know they weren't read stories to sleep and had a parent up with them first thing, either. You have one child to keep safe, who is normal and not prone to harm himself or others or be a fire bug (I presume). Most homes don't have enough bedrooms to secure a couple of children who might harm themselves or others during the nighttime hours, never mind 11. If these kids showed no other signs of neglect or abuse (which from what I read seems to be the case), obviously these people are caring for them out of love and compassion, not greed for a few lousy dollars per kid per month from the state. If that was their "thing," I think the kids would have been running around *** naked, sleeping in their own filth, and being starved. If the cages were just part of other issues of abuse, I'd agree wholeheartedly. As it seems to be the only issue, I just for the life of me cannot see what all the fuss is about. Your special needs child was apparently not self-destructive or dangerous to others. What do you do with a child (especially your own that you didn't adopt) who say sits around and bangs his head on the wall or bangs his head on other kids' heads?

No more than you can say that they do, but the days of living like animals have been over for a long time and every child is entitled to a comfort such as a nice place to sleep. Clay's room is baby proofed where he cannot wrap anything around his neck, cannot "start a fire" - like that would be an issue in a bedroom, no sharp corners, nothing to climb on, and he still has a bed. He cannot get out of his room in the mornings if he were to get up before me, but he has his toys to play with and a comfortable living space, not a damned inhumane cruel stupid cage.
