Re: sorry about that, chief

I think perhaps the sadness comes from our not having them in our immediate lives rather than their death is sad. I've had family members die at an early age, and while I miss them and think of them all the time, it isn't just the good things they missed in life, but the bad things too.

My brother died young and we will never know what good things life would have held for him, but I do know he won't have a cheating spouse or divorce or a custody battle over his children; he will never have money problems nor have to file bankruptcy and lose a house; he will never be stalked and fear for his life; his children will never be drug addicts, rapists, or murderers; he'll never see his house destroyed and his family's bodies floating in flood waters; he didn't have to see his mother and sister die from cancer; he will never be in automobile accident that paralyzes him for life; and he will die from asphyxiation because his lungs quit working. For those things, I am grateful.

Well, I'm of a mind that any death is sad. I'm still sad my son is gone too, I can't help it. I can celebrate their lives and know they aren't here suffering, but that doesn't make it any less sad to know that someone isn't around anymore. And I really don't think there was any reason to explain why someone would be sad at a death.

Well, now that you have explained what you believe, even though you think there was no reason to do so, I understand your viewpoint.

I guess the reason I asked was that I don't see every death as sad, and so your comment struck me as unusual.
