Actually, this is one of the few groups I'm aware of where
top-posting is considered acceptable. The more important practice is
to follow the accepted norms for whatever group you're reading. If
I'm responding to a short post here, such as yours, I'll usually
reply at the bottom just as I do elsewhere. If my reply is short,
or there's no reason to do otherwise here, I'll top post. OTOH,
when I'm replying separately to a number of points within a post and
want to address them specifically, I'll interleave my responses
throughout the post, letting the carat markers (>>>) separate the
old from the new. The other thing that makes a difference is to
snip what's no longer relevant to your response. It keeps the posts
from becoming burdensome or unwieldy.

In any case, as I said, the best practice is to follow the custom in
the group. It makes things flow so much more smoothly.
