The children, even teenagers, are under their parents' control 24/7 (which
many people, I'm sure, think is a good thing: I don't). The mother has
stated that "they don't know anything else." Their days are extremely
structured. They have no say even in what they wear. And I grew up with
children who looked like them and appeared to be raised in the same manner,
although back them homeschooling wasn't heard of much, so they did attend
public school, and I saw the girls deferring sickeningly to the boys even at
a very young age.

Honestly, no. If your religious beliefs include limiting your child in the
ways that I believe these children will be limited, then no, I don't think
it's right. Absolutely they have the constitutional right, if they aren't
abusing them, to raise their children however they see fit. I certainly
don't think laws should prevent it, but I don't think it's morally right to
impose your absolute will on another human being, without allowing that
person to know anything else, or hear of anything else, even if that human
being is your own child. Therefore, it makes me sad. It doesn't make me
say they should be taken away, or the people are evil, or anything like
that. But it sure doesn't make me think they should celebrated in the way
the media seems to be celebrating them of late. I looked at the children,
particularly the older ones, while their parents were being interviewed
today. They were certainly well-behaved, but those older girls looked
something very very far from happy.
