I can see with bites for sure. As far as heartworm for dogs - I know soe vets might insist on test. Mine does not - we tell him the dogs had the pills. Of course some horse vets want to test stool for worms too (and it's not a bad idea), but it is not criteria for gettin horse wormer at feeds store

I remember being told the reason for that, but I don't recall what it
was. Maybe the dose balance is delicate? I'm not sure - but I'm the old
take-it-to-the-vet-and-cry-over-the-bill-later kind. Only exception to
that was once when Herschel was chewed up by some stray dogs (that we
later counted up from neighbors' bills) who caused $5500 in vet bills -
and killed a BUNCH of baby goats too. DH drained the dozen or so seromas
that (of course) popped up on him. When he had his skin broken - even by
his shots - he got a giant seroma. He went his whole life and we never
really knew why this happened, but it was a big enough problem that the
vet didn't even want to neuter him over it - and he's a big fixer.
You can go to local feed stores and buy the wormer stuff for your
horses. Here the vets won't even sell them without a prescription and they will not prescribe them without a recent heartwork test.
