What we take for granted

Some Alaskan friends are here and I wanted to show them the best of So.
Cal. As they are Harley owners, I took them to many places that we love
to ride on the bike. Unfortunately, we came upon a 5-bike accident
where one guy died at the scene. We were the third vehicle and before
the first responders. Tim jumped out and ran to see if he could help.
Several other bikers that were riding in the group, but not involved in
the accident were triaging the scene. It was horrible. One Ninja
biker didn't make the curve going down the mountain road and crossed
over into the other lane and wiped out a Harley coming up the road in
his own lane. Coming upon this scene gave me so much respect for one
of the bikers helping out, who obviously as an MD, ER nurse, or EMT.
He was unbelievable. But who do you work on one of your buddies in
such a stressful situation. I hope that it is not a scene I come on
ever again. We think that probably several others didn't make it
either, but will have to wait for the newspaper to find out more
details. Hopefully no one here who rides, rides without a helmet,
whether they have a state helmet law or not.
