Another reason I hate Windows! When you're busy you don't have time to wait on hold to deal with that stuff. Of course, they do it because so many people never would bother to ever buy a legal program. The old WP DOS you were allowed to have it on multiple computers per license - if I recall correctly - just not be using it simultaneously. Also, that program you could just copy to a zip disk or back it up and transfer it complete with all files to another computer. "Installation" was not needed.
My computer is dragging. I know DH reformatted his. I can't stand the thought of having to try to remember what all software I may need to get new codes for, etc. What a pain

Barb, I think I recall that you are allowed to install your Word program twice or possibly three times (for some reason I want to say three, but I could be wrong) without any issue. However, once you go over that many installs, you have to call Microsoft them to get another activation code.
Now my recent experience kind of ticked me off because I had installed my version of Word XP onto my original desktop when I purchased it, then put it on the other family computer for the girls and their school work and then finally onto my laptop. I had no problems. Eventually I purchased a new desktop and had to reinstall it and I had to call Microsoft to get a new activation code. Six months later, my husband is home from his surgery and I gave him the laptop to play with - eventually ended up with a virus that I just could not get completely rid of so I reformatted the harddrive and had to reinstall, again no issues, but I did have to call Microsoft also this time to install.
Now just a couple of weeks ago, I went ahead and cleaned up my desktop which was running slow. I backed everything up and reinstalled the software. When I went to activate, it was again prompted to contact Microsoft. No big deal is what I thought, until I was informed that I had to pay $10 (I think, more or less I don't remember off the top of my head) for a new activation code.
Guess I shouldn't complain in a way because I have installed it multiple times, but I wonder if this is just because of that or if they have started a new trend and are charging everyone.

I never have anything important on my laptop. I transfer files to my office machine which has dual hard drives and backs up everything automatically, so it was no loss. I occasionally let my son borrow the laptop so I NEVER leave any medical files on it, and since I own all my software I just have to install it.
It says I have to activate my copy of Word, however. Since I activated it when I put it on my main computer is that going to mean they won't let me use it on my laptop, too? Does anyone know? My connection isn't working, so I wasn't able to do it. I can get on the internet, but for some reason cannot reach MS or Toshiba to "register" the products. Have to consult my son. I never use Word anyway, except to check the formatting on the documents I have to send in Word. I can't find my WP11 discs, but I know they are here somewhere. Time to clean out the office!
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. My son and his wife both had to work as they are in the service industry at Ocean Reef and Holidays are busy days for them. When I worked in the Keys I always had to work on holidays, at least now my time is more flexible.
I'm not hyped up for Christmas. Have some sewing to finish as gifts, and did a little shopping when I was in Fort Worth last week.

Barbara,
Have fun. I work on my laptop quite often, but word to the wise - you may want to save work to a thumb drive. I had a problem and couldn't get my antivirus to straighten something out and needed my work off of it immediately. I thought that I was going to have to retranscribe a bunch of work. If I had saved to a thumb drive when I got home it would have just been a snap to change to my desktop.
