The difference is that the Jewish people have the Talmud, the Mishna, and the Gemara, where learned rabbis have already interpreted the principles of the Torah for individual people to apply, whereas for Christians each individual believer has the standing of a priest before G-d (spelled as such in this case out of respect for your beliefs) and the responsibility and privilege of interpreting and applying the principles in the Scriptures for themself, hopefully based solely on the leading of the Holy Spirit (hope that doesn't have to be altered; my apologies if it does) in their life, which I do believe can lead people in different ways and still be a valid application of the same principle.
