I think having a camera phone is very cool. Here's an example: I
took a little 9-second video of my cat last night (just playing with
the new phone, OK?) and happened to catch her do a real cute little
roll-over and stretch. Today I called my 13-y/o niece just to say hi,
since we're now on the same Cingular network, and she told me how to
text-message the video to her so she could see it. (She's 400 miles
away and I only see her a few times a year.) Now, how cool is that?
It helps me stay connected to her, communicate on her level of tech
know-how, allows her to teach me something I didn't know, and it's
just fun. I know, totally unnecessary, but still a good thing IMO.
And I think it cost about 10 cents.
Of course, the first thing she asked me, when I told her I got the
RazR, was "Did you get the pink one?" I had to go to the Motorola web
site to see it -- it's beautiful, but you have to have T-Mobile to get
it. Mine is black.
Also, living in a big city, there's always that possibility of a
fender-bender or the broken parking meter where you get the ticket
anyways, and having a little phone camera to document these things is
a definite plus. And I *hate* carrying a "real" camera and never do.
It's not for serious photography; it's just for documentation and fun.
It also takes voice recordings and has voice-activated dialing. One
button and I say "mom cel" and it dials. Much safer when driving. Of
course, it told me it couldn't distinguish between "John cel" and "Tom
cel," so I had to add Tom's last name when recording the voice prompt.
<g> It also has a "notepad" feature that remembers the last series of
#s you enter -- so if someone tells you a phone # and you don't have
pencil and paper, you just type it into your phone and then save it in
whatever place you need to save it. Another cool feature. (Yes, I
read the entire manual last night. <g>)
So far, the sound clarity is fabulous, even on speaker phone, and
though I haven't yet received an incoming call while out in the world,
it's so loud in my house I had to turn it to "soft." We shall see.
I'm manually entering my numbers because I couldn't figure out the
bluetooth-enabled transfer thing. I don't think I have bluetooth
enabled at all and don't really need it or want to pay for it, so I'll
just do the entries myself. It's not like I have to WORK or anything!
Happy New Year, everybody.
