Becky,
I have a HP fax and if you somehow criss-crossed the phone wires
(assuming you use two) it will ring but not accept faxes. I have one
phone wire from the wall into the HP and one from the HP to my phone.
You have to have the one that came with the HP going from the wall to
the "in" spot on the fax. It took me several hours to figure out why
mine wasn't working right after moving things around in my office a few
months ago.
