Let me clear that up a little bit. DSL doesn't change the phone lines in any
way. They've always had the capability to transmit digital and analog ever
since they went to the fiber optic cables. Anyway, they just (in lay terms)
flip a switch at the office and you have DSL.

What the DSL provider does is send you filters that you hook to every one of
your jacks and these filters have dual lines. One is for phone/fax and the
other is for going to your modem. In essence it's like a splitter so there's
no interference. I have a jack right behind my desk. The filter comes out of
it. Then I have my fax machine hooked to the phone side of the filter and
the other goes directly to my modem.
