OT: Question about dish TV

We have DirecTV in Belize, and when it was set up we were told to choose the
programming we thought we wanted, and then it could be easily changed with a
phone call if desired. So... my neighbor (we share the satellite dish)
decided she wanted to add the West Coast local channels. She called and told
them to change, they did, but the channels never came through. She called
again and they said that the receiver and remote have to be reprogrammed.
OK... so that doesn't sound so easy. We (my neighbor and I) are going down
in a couple of weeks, so... how is this "reprogramming" done? I am sooooo
"dish-illiterate".
