I learned to be a bicycle mechanic, up to and including building a set of
wheels from scratch, by reading and asking questions on the bicycle
newsgroups. I've learned *tons* of other stuff from the other ng's I
subscribe to also.
Where else can you find a group of people with a common passion who are
willing to share their expertise on just about any subject? The key thing
is lurking long enough to gain the discernment to know which individuals
know what they're talking about:).
Sometimes getting different opinions and advice from people you trust in
regards to the same question is very enlightening also, as I have learned
that there is usually more than one *viable* way to skin a cat, so to speak.
