I suddenly had some very strong chest pain Sunday afternoon while just sitting. I laid down for a few minutes, but no change. I chewed four Rolaids with no change. Then took a Zantac, still no change in the pain. Took a couple of nitroglycerine, no change, then an oxycodone. It had been about an hour since the pain had started. I was also hurting in my back, up between my shoulder blades. The pain was kinda hard to describe, but felt like someone was pressing very hard on my sternum.
I was getting scared, so Martha took me to the ER. The first EKG showed changes since the one taken in October before my knee surgery. They7 took a total of 5 EKGs and kept me in the ER about 12 hours. Two doses of nitro would stop the pain, but it would return. I alos found out the nitro I had at home was old and ineffecitive. They started a Heprin drip and the pain went away completely.
Lying on a stretcher with about a 1-inch pad and al the noise in the ER was'nt very helpful for sleep. They transferred me to the cardiac unit a 5 am, and I was able to sleep a little. They kept me on the Heprin drip continuously, and I had no more pain. They decided to do a cardiac cath and rolled me down to the cath unit, but they got an emergency from the ER, and I was bumped. They rescheduled ti for Tues. morning. that showed the arteries to be in good shape.
they kept me the rest of the day and let me come home about 7 last night. The doctors gave me two possible scenerios. Possibly a clot in the haert was causing the pain and the Heprim cleared it out, thus stopping the pain. the other, and the diagnosis was unstable angina.
I have had no more pain and am at home now. Because of the incision into the femoral artery, I can't do much for about 10 days. Seems long to me, but i wil be compliant.
Thanks your concern. I really appreciate it.

Neal, I appreciate it, but for heaven's sake, don't worry about the transcriber; take care of you!!! I hope you're feeling better and they find a benign cause for the symptoms.

Anne,
I do have both the minicassette and microcassette transcribers. I just got home from the hospital from a possible heart attack. I will try to get you some information tomorrow.
