I've heard of people being prequalified for a mortgage, but I've never heard of anyone actually getting money to pay income taxes with collateral that isn't quite theirs yet. Of course, I don't run with a crowd that could make payments on a $600,000 loan until the house was sold either.

It was my understanding that they couldn't receive title until the income taxes were paid. If they couldn't receive the title, then they couldn't get a mortgage on it. Can't remember where I saw the article or I'd refresh my memory.


There are ways to get the mortgage as a prerequisite to getting the title. In fact, that's what happens when most people buy their homes in the first place!
