Poor thing has to pay double taxes. Wow. Well, it has occurred to me that as the money I'm getting from Oz isn't trackable by the IRS, I could get away with not paying taxes on it. I'm sure some would take the chance - I plan to report it along with my other income.

By the way, I have looked at a bunch of pages on offshoring and its definition and while some may say it is automatically any business shipped overseas....in almost every instance the mention of LOWER COST LABOR is mentioned. I still believe that no matter what the term started out meaning it has evolved into those three words being a major factor in how it's thought of these days.

Honestly, what does any MT who hears the term offshoring think of? India, shoddy work, crap wages. Am I wrong? Now, my sub's work is exceptional, and she is definitely not paid crap wages...and she's not in India. I'm not trying to say I'm not offshoring in a sense, because I am with it leaving the borders, but she pays U.S. taxes on the 1099 I send her and she pays Swedish taxes on the same money. She is a very conscientious tax-minded person and believes very much in paying what she's supposed to. Would I have really been expected to just cut her loose because she was going to spend six months of a year in Sweden?

Ah, Sandi, I don't think it's wrong and I'd hate to think anyone thought I was being defensive because I feel embarrassed or something--that's not to say that's what you were implying, just telling you that I only got in on the discussion because I have a similar circumstance as to what Oz does. LOL In my not so humble opinion this is about a silly argument just because it's Rae that somebody decided he or she "had something on" How childish.

See, what you consider an argument I consider genuine food for thought. Rather than making it a fight, and therefore something negative, we could have used this genuine example of the shoe being on the other foot and use it to genuinely discuss an issue that's important to all of us - er, some of us.

Looking at things from the other end has certainly given me something to consider today. It even became the topic of lunchtime conversation with my husband, which was better than the food itself - a lame attempt at Thai food by me.
