My grandmother was following a chicken hawk like that once, and
unfortunately she shot just as her oldest son clambered up on a fence
post to watch, and he was in the line of fire. Killed him. She died
before I was ever born, but mom said she was never the same after that.
This was during the depression, they lived way out in the sticks of
western Kentucky (might have been Tennessee then, I can't remember when
they moved).
