It is true that it's better to know something bad and deal with it head on than never having known. And I actually do feel sad that the carrot was dangled for you, and I doubt you'll even ever see the full benefit of what you put in.
You
happen to be a very responsible person, but I have many friends, whose
children are still at home, because the kids cannot make the leap to
their own lives.
I've seen that happen, and I think it's sad, too.
I don't know what I wish that your generation would picket
about.
I tell you, I was thinking about this all morning whilst I was going about my chores. ("Whilst..." I have always had a bad habit of picking up peoples' writing idiosyncracies when I read a lot of it.) I can tell you what I *would* picket about were I to have an opportunity to picket--but it really doesn't matter because the change I want to occur has to happen within the human heart and I am of the firm belief picketing doesn't change human hearts. Also, my generation's methods are different. The will to make change exists, but the methods differ.
I also think we are more in survival mode, and can't think past next paycheck and next mortgage payment to find time to do much protesting.
