Re: Anyone know about frostbite? I guess I could look it up but I'm in a hurry.

That helps. Thanks Bambi. I'm gonna go wrinkle him up and soak his
hands, feet, and face then. I might even let him come up for air. lol
:)

I'd heard of the lukewarm water, but not the wrinkling!

The kids and I were playing a game called "Worst Case Scenario" a couple
days ago, and several frostbite questions came up!

How to Recognize Frostbite:
The skin is grayish in color and feels either numb or extremely painful.

How to Treat Frostbite:
Slowly thaw the area by pouring water over it that is heated to 107-110
degrees F. (Do not rub with snow or reheat the area too quickly.)

How to Avoid Frostbite on the Face:
Wrinkle your face to stop stiff patches from forming.

Hope this helps.

DH just did a surgery on a cow out in the freezing cold in the wind (I
know the surgery, we did it one time in about this same weather, so I
KNOW how long it takes ( a couple of hours, I think) but at least when
we did it, we were in a lean-to, and SOME of the wind was blocked.

I made him take his PAC boots, but of course he didn't wear them while
doing the surgery. He said his hands were froze but at least they were
warmed by being in the cow for some of the time. But instead of warm
gloves he had surgical gloves on, so not sure how okay they are,
either. His feet are froze, but he says "Oh I'm okay." Sure you are.

Now he's on his way to put an IV in a cow, and we have to meet him at
the clinic in 45 to do a C-section on a dog. What should I look for to
see if he has frostbite, and (I should know this, but I don't or I'm
just brain dead) what do I do? I think put his hands and feet in
lukewarm water, but how do you know if you should?

I'm going to go research..will be back in a few mins before I have to
go. Gawd.

Men!
