AMEN!
I wonder how many of these antichoice men stick by their wives who are raped - or do they feel revulsion making her feel like damaged goods?

Jay, this is a very passionate topic individuals..
My own opinion is that it is the woman's choice. I personally do not even feel a man should have any say-so in what a woman should do with her body as it pertains to an abortion mainly because it is the woman who carries a child. Whatever reason a woman has for obtaining an abortion, I am sure she went through a degree of agony to make that choice and decided to do it for a very good reason.
My own personal opinion is that no one should question her reason for doing it because it is her body.
Each of us has our own beliefs but the bottom line is what the mother of this unborn child feels is right for her, not what the father feels is right for her, but what the woman feels is right for her, for whatever reason because SHE is the person who is carrying that child.
I guess I find it rather strange that a man would say that even in rape or incest that that woman should go through with a pregnancy and deliver that child. This is a child that was conceived through very adverse circumstances and a man states that a woman should carry this child the entire nine months and give birth to this child, but again, everyone has their own opinion and we are all entitled to it.
Anyway, I am breaking my own rule not to discuss such a passionate and controversial issue. I try to stay out of things of this nature.
You are entitled to your opinion, I mine, and anyone else theirs and all those opinions are something that we feel deeply about, no matter whether we think along the same lines or not.
When they voted to give women the right on what to do with their bodies in this case, I felt that was the best thing they could do though women would have found more unsafe methods to do what they needed to do for their sanity had they not made it legal.
I believe the only thing we truly have the right to is our opinion and we should not discredit others who have differing ones on such a very sensitive subject and that includes me. I do have an opinion though as do you.
My main thing is that I feel that men should have no say-so in the matter or anyone else other than the woman whose body it is that has the child.

The opinion frightens me because this is how far pro-lifers would go if
given free rein. This opinion means that its author feels that a
menstruating 10-year-old girl who has been held down as her father
rapes her should then be taken out of school, ostracized from her peer
group, used as a receptacle, and forced to undergo the birth process
when she herself is a child. The father takes her childhood away, and
the prolifers take her personhood away. She has become a thing--a
victim of her father, a victim of prolifers, and a "thing" to society.
in agreement about this issue from a practical standpoint. Again, IFrom what I have read in this thread, I think you and I are very much
have no desire to impose my personal feelings about a very emotional
issue on the world; I don't believe anyone should have that power. I
believe this is an issue that must be decided by the people of this
country--something that the Supreme Court has not allowed to happen. I
do not expect all abortions to be made illegal in this country; I'm
confident that women who have been raped or molested or whose
pregnancies are threatening to their health will always have access to
abortion somewhere in the United States. I believe that if given the
opportunity, the people of this country would arrive at a reasonable
compromise on this issue, and that is how it should be.
What I find ironic about your statement is that you can speculate all
you want on what MIGHT happen if the pro-lifers had free rein, which
will never happen, but in reality we already know what HAS happened
since anti-abortionists have had free rein--one and half million
abortions a year, the vast majority of which, according to another post
in this thread, are for women who have already had at least one other
abortion, and less than 10% of which are for the victims of rape or
incest or in cases where the mother's life is clearly threatened.
I have clearly stated that I would not wish to impose my personal
opinions on the country. Rae has flatly said that if she "had the
power," she might FORCE women to have abortions if she didn't agree
with their reasons for continuing her pregnancy. But I'm the one who
scares you and makes you sick....??
