second hard drive install with XP

I'm trying to install a second hard drive to my pc that's running Media
Center Edition of XP, which is basically XP pro with a few other bells and
whistles.

When I go into disk management to initialize and format the drive, I'm not
getting a choice to format it as a basic disk or dynamic disk. XP only
wants it installed as a dynamic disk. I even formated it as dynamic, then
deleted the volume and tried again, but I was still only given the option to
install as dynamic.

The hard drive is a Western Digital 250GB SATA II, if that matters at all.
It's the same model as my original "C" drive, which is installed as a basic
disk.

The only reason I would like to install it as a basic disk is that I'm
concerned that I may have trouble with imaging software and the like if it's
a dynamic disk.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
