Digital recordings

I have a question from one of my offices who I am trying to convince to
go digital. Right now they like the comfort of having the tape go from
them to me, with no chance of it being lost in cyberspace. Have any of
you ever had any problems with the office saying a file has been sent
and you don't get it? Once the office thinks the file is sent, I assume
they give the doc back the memory card and then he records over
it...right? I don't know enough (anything really) about the digital
recorders to give them a clear answer.
Thanks
Barbara
