Re: Digital recordings

tagging on...
I also bought the digital recorders for all of my docs, and one for myself
(5 total). I thought it would be worth it to me, and it certainly has been.

Barb,
I use Olympus DS2000. The software is such that the dictation uploads to
the computer, and then a copy is sent to me. It stays on the doctor's
computer until the dictation has been returned. I have never lost a
dictation file. (There was a time when we first started doing this that
the girl in the office thought she had lost some files, but they were
there, she just wasn't looking in the right folder). I think it's been
about 3 years now. So, when a file is uploaded to the doctor's computer,
it's there. Then if you use an ftp site, it's there. And when I download
it, it's on my computer. So, if I accidentally delete it, I can always
retrieve from the ftp site again, or it can be sent from the doctor's
computer again. I assume that most digital software is the same. (On the
Olympus there is an option - "Erase file after sent?" and of course I say
"NO!"

It really is so easy. Back when I used tapes there *were* a couple of
times that I accidentally erased a tape (thinking I had already done it,
etc), but I have never *erased* or lost a digital file. Even if I delete
it prematurely, it's right there in my recycle bin! I hope your docs go
for it. Not doing daily pickup and delivery is just heaven. That in itself
wasted so much of my day.

Yes, Rae, it's amazing all the reasons they try to come up with for not
switching. I'm going to try to educate myself enough to be ready for
all their lame excuses. I'm so tired of running around pickup work and
printing.

That's what I needed to know, Chris...how to prevent the dictations
from getting lost. So if they save it first to their computer and then
send to me we should be fine...right?

I'll probably be back with more questions as they throw them at me.

Janice, we didn't go to Vegas yet. We're going March 31st through April
4th. I'm counting the days. My SIL just got back from there and had a
wonderful time. She even came back $1400 ahead so she's planning
another trip the end of May.

I'll look into the Phillips. Can you tell me the exact model? I'll even
consider buying the recorders at this point.

Thanks
Barbara
