I am a newly-diagnosed Type 2 diabetic. Dr. has told me low-carb diet. Now
....

Does anybody out there have any suggestions. I have the book Diabetes Type
2, The First Year, which I have found very informative. I have bought a
couple of diabetes cookbooks, which I find VERY conflicting in
recommendations. I've read articles, and searched the internet, and again
found conflicting advice (one recommended a HIGH carb diet).

My brother has been a type 2 for many years now and since he is mildly
retarded I've been the helper for him after our father died so I've had
to be involved with his medical issues. He had the front of one of his
feet amputated a few years ago due to diabetic complications.

Anyway... when he was first diagnosed they sent him to a seminar
series (a couple or so hours on two or three Saturdays) where they
went over in considerable detail exactly what diabetes is, what it does,
how to treat it, how to keep from going into diabetic shock,
drugs, diet etc. etc. Very informative and since it was a small group
you could ask questions as they came up etc. etc.

The seminar was free and was at the local hospital. You might want to
check to see if there is something like that near you.

HTH,

Bob
