Re: Cat question

Here's a link that explains why human tuna is very bad for cats:
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=450509

To summarize what they say, tuna has not enough taurine, calcium, Vitamin A,
Vitamin E, and B vitamins. It has too much phosphorus. Too much tuna
causes steatitis, neurological symptoms, and can be fatal. :-(

Because they need the taurine that is the cat food, but not in tuna.

Whoa! Why is canned tuna bad for cats? Martha feeds them a can a day!

Thanks,

Neal

It's in commercial cat food, so if your cats eat that, they should be
fine. Canned tuna, although the cats love it, is not good for them. Dog
food does not have taurine in it. That's why dogs can eat cat food, but
cats cannot eat dog food.

I saw a case on Animal Planet where the lady was a vegetarian and also
fed her cats a vegetarian diet, and the cats went blind. Their eyes
looked like they had HUGE pupils, as I recall.

How do you give them taurine?

Inadequate amounts of taurine in cats' diets causes a form of retinal
degeneration, but I wasn't able to find a photo of it online.

No it's not that ... but look at the picture of the normal cat eye
and then expand the black circle around the iris. It looks like it's
slowly "eating away" the iris.
