I've read Atkins (though some time ago) and knew that was misinformation.
How do you keep track of your blood sugars eating 5 or 6 meals a day.
That doesn't really fit in with my lifestyle, but then the only "fasting"
BS you would get would be first thing in the morning. I suppose that
would be okay and then testing through the day to see what the "peaks"
were. My doc has recommended testing 3 times a day before meals, but in
doing my homework I see many recommendations are for checking 1 and 2
hours after meals, especially when trying to learn what foods you should
or should not eat, which makes more sense to me. Just that those test
strips are darned expensive, and the poke does hurt!
When you first begin to test, you should test both fasting and 1-2 hours
after meals. This will give you a better overall picture of your sugar
levels.
I use the "One Touch" Ultra meter and strips. The One Touch lancets are
very small and I usually don't even feel them when I poke myself. The Ultra
meter and strips only require a very teeny drop of blood, so the lancets
don't have to be quite as large as other types.
