Addicts focus on stopping, when they really need to
focus on why they're using.
This is the crux of my next business venture....
Cool.
Now, absolutely no offense intended, but unless you have graduated from the
school of hard knocks, division of drug addiction, you're not going to have
much credibility with most drug addicts.
Addicts, if I may take the liberty of generalizing a bit, do not respect
authority or college degrees. If you're a "counselor" and they are your
client, that puts you in a position of authority, no matter how careful and
sensitive your approach is.
In addition, *I* believe the real solution to addiction is spiritual in
nature. People who are addicts are trying to fill a hole in themselves with
something, and only that hole can only truly be filled by things of a
spiritual nature.
If you're charging for services provided, then I believe that spirituality
pretty much goes out the window, since I believe that spirituality can only
be freely shared and freely accepted.
This is why I believe that the most effective therapy for addicts is to join
together with other recovering addicts. That is where identification is
finally found, and where experience, strength and hope are freely shared.
That is where the spiritual solution can take place.
Even so, it seems that few recover, and even fewer stay clean for any
significant length of time.
In any case, I wish you the best of success in your venture. I hate this
disease and all the funerals I have attended because of it.
