Okay - got it

I'm assuming you don't want a footer at all on page 1? If not, Go to
the last line of page 1 with cursor at end of line and hit
Insert-Break-Next page. Then you will probably have to delete the extra
space it put in there, prolly about three times. While cursor is at the
very beginning of page 2, choose View-Header and Footer. Put cursor
into the footer box. Choose Page Setup-Layout and check off Different
first page and then choose This point forward in the Apply to: section.
Hit okay. Now type Page # of ++ and then click on that third icon that
has the ++ with hand and choose Start at 2. Hit close on the Header and
Footer window that is open. That should be it. This will give you no
footer at all on page 1, but will give you Page 2 of whatever and Page
3 of whatever, and page 4 of whatever, and so on.
