I absolutely would - depending on the quality of the script. Can't make a
bad picture if I'm such a fantastic actor, right? In fact, I'd probably
seek out roles that are direct opposite for me so that I could better my
craft, again as long as the movie sounded good. If I'm that good and
popular, no doubt people would have an idea about my ideals that I feel that
strongly about. And being offered a role in a movie with an issue you feel
strongly about is a wonderful way to get people talking about things and
encouraging change.
That said though, it would probably need to be more than $5 mill - an actor
of that quality is making about 4-5 times more than that per picture. Then
again, I am female, but (slightly) under 30 so perhaps I could get $15 mill.
For that "little" money, I'd probably have so many other offers that I'd
chose the role that has the best script and director and room for growth,
stretching and Oscar nomination, regardless of the ideals of the picture.
And being single, I'd also probably consider taking a part in a
less-than-stellar movie if I was starring opposite a fantastic man.
Anything too heavy-handed probably would get stuck with a director who's not
on par with my skills.
Did I consider too many variables there? lol
What about you Su?

You've given up MT and have entered The Actor's Studio in NY. They adoreso
you. You're fantastic. You're another Meryl Streep (or Sean Penn). Steven
Spielberg wants you. Ron Howard wants you. Martin Scorcese wants you. Rob
Reiner wants you. (you get the idea)
You've been offered the lead part in a movie. The movie will be PG rated,
there's no nudity and there's no cussing. Your will be salary: $5,000,000terrorist
(think about it ... your children could go to fantastic schools, you could
fix up your home, take the vacation of your dreams, donate it all to your
favorite charity, etc)
Here's the catch ... the role is one that is direct opposition to your
personal beliefs. Example: You're opposed to abortion, but the role
requires you to play a doctor who performs abortions. You're a die-hard
democrat and you have to play the #1 individual that tried to get Bush
elected. You love this country, but you have to play a member of a
group. (along those lines)
Remember ... $5,000,000 to do with what you want.
Could you and would you play the part?
