Re: OT: Shades of gray?

I know at least someone who'd sooner fornicate than eat a piece of hame or
take a drink. That's what religion can do to people

Funny that you should say that. I once worked for an Adventist doctor who
wouldn't even use pepper on his food because it was a stimulant. Wouldn't go
to the bakery to get a donut on Saturday morning. No coke, no coffee, no
meat, etc. However, he had no problem having an affair with an EKG tech at
the hospital... twice (2 different women).

You never lived in my world. The world I grew up in, drinking a cup of
Coke or coffee or wearing a wedding ring was possibly no different than
adultry or blasphemy. Of course, if you've not been indoctrinated in that,
you can't comprehend it. Yet it is true. I know at least someone who'd
sooner fornicate than eat a piece of hame or take a drink.

there are gray areas over which I hope to never have to make a decision.

Mostly lurking and often ignoring threads that get too long and

For those of you with very strong beliefs on certain subjects, is it
always black and white or is there ever a shade of gray?

For me, everything is a shade of gray. It all depends on the
circumstances.
However, I've noticed that there are some who post to smt who feel
strongly about certain things and there don't seem to be any gray
areas, no room for individual circumstances. Everything is black or
white, right or wrong. Am I reading them wrong or is this really the
way they are?
Do most people know exactly where they stand on any given topic? I
used to be like that but as I get older, I've become aware that the
world is not always black and white.

Am I in the minority? Am I wishy-washy or, as some politicians are
called, a waffler?

I don't know if I envy or pity those who see no gray.
