I've never had a pure-bred kitty that I paid for. A friend had kittens that
were not "show" Ragdolls and I drove to Virginia and got two-- Serendipity
and Elliott. I also brought home their mom, well my cousin who rode with
me, brought home their mom.

My ex was always big into getting "pure-bred" dogs. Everyone we ever had
died before it was 5. My SPCA "mutts" have lived 15+ years.

My current "mutts" came from a sci.med lead in fact. And they'll likely
live to be 103 just to drive me crazy.

After spending the day looking around, I may encourage her to go to the SPCA
or the humane society. When this daughter turned 10 my sister gave her a
kitten. It had Siamese-like coloring. Turned out to be a seal-point that
the vet offered to buy from me..... I assured her the mom was a garage tabby
and she told me it could not have been! LOL!

Keep checking out the local animal shelters, too. You'd be surprised
at how many purebred and near-purebreds they get in both cats and
dogs! I prefer getting pets there anyhow, as ever shelter rescue
story is another animal that didn't get put to sleep. And let's
face it -- those mixed-breed cats will love their humans just as
much as the fanciest grand champion.
