Piggybacking my own post, because I noticed after I posted this that some
of your posts, Su, seem to take this view of things as well. Would you
tell these women that showing a hand, or an ankle, or God forbid, their
faces, would make it their fault if they were thrown to the ground and
raped or beaten?

If a woman in that country knows that showing a hand, ankle, or face is
going to get them thrown to the ground, raped, or beaten ... then they
better make sure they don't.

We're looking at this from two different angles. You're seeing the
humanitarian side and I'm speaking of the law(s) in the general sense.

Let's try this from a different angle ... prostitution is 100% legal in a
lot of European countries. Not just a single city, but the whole country.
The woman are required to have periodic health exams, but it's still legal.
Now, how do you think U.S. citizens, as a whole, would react if people of
that country came here and dictated to us that prostitution should be legal,
all throughout the U.S., and especially in the Bible Belt?

I know that back in 1970s Germany, marijuana was totally legal. As long as
you didn't cause any problems, the cops left you alone. But here, it's like
pulling teeth to get it legalized for medicinal purposes ... never mind
generalized use by the regular public. Should Germans come here and "fight
City Hall," because they feel since it's legal in Germany it should be legal
here?

Look at what happened to this country in the 1860s ... the Civil War. And
why? "State's Rights" ... which exists even to this day. Should Texas revolt
against North Dakota or New York, because those states don't have the death
penalty? Should Florida make demands that their "favorite son," Old Sparky,
be used everywhere?

Besides ... we need to spend more time focusing on the pain and suffering in
this country rather than what's in another country.
