Bush should certainly know better - makes you wonder who he is in bed with - oh that's right - we have him holding hands with some of those guys. There is 'no way' he doesn't know the truth about this.

Not always. Sometimes their hearts change.


But not in response to someone who is attempting to "destroy" their beliefs. All that does is hurt and alienate people.


Which is precisely why missionaries need to stay out of other countries, like Iraq, and let those of the Muslim faith continue to be Muslims ... and not have their belief "destroyed" so they can be converted into Christians.

Yeah, I'd have believed that, too, until I took a class in Muslim culture and law last semester.

I did share some of it back then, so those who are bored by it, now's the time to change the channel. :)

I signed up for a course in "Islamic Jurisprudence," hoping to learn more about the way in which Islamic countries conduct trials and approach legal issues. I was shocked to learn that there is very little in the way of secular law in Islamic countries. Essentially the law in an Islamic country is the Quran...as interpreted by those in power, of course.

I spent an entire semester at law school in religious indoctrination. The "professor" was from Jordan, and we missed our first few classes because he had visa problems. Once we got started, he had us start reading the history of Islam. Unfortunately the history of Islam is contained in texts from many years ago, translated in barely legible English, and full of propaganda.

It is true that under Islam anyone who converts to Christianity, or any other religion, is to be put to death. He says that's really not so bad as it seems, because all you have to do to avoid the death penalty is renounce your new religion and proclaim that you are again a Muslim. To help you do this, your fellow Muslims may spend 3 days trying to convince you to repent, but if you don't, at the end of 3 days you are put to death. He says this is unlikely to happen, because anyone would say they are a Muslim rather than die. He says in this way it really isn't bad to change your religion, only to publicly admit that you have done so. Admitting you have done so would encourage others to do so, which is like treason, as you are encouraging people to leave Islam.

Regarding women, he spent many days telling us how women have it so good in Islam, that we just don't understand. Women have to cover their entire bodies, faces and hands included in many places, not because they think women are bad, but because men have no self control. There is no reason to place temptation before a man, because if he cannot control himself, that is not his fault; he is just a man. So it is up to the woman to cover herself for her own protection.

Any country which is not Islamic is considered a country of heathens and is to be conquered, and if it cannot be conquered, avoided.

Anyone who proseletyzes in a Muslim country is subject to death, because they are again encouraging Muslims to break with their faith, which is also their government and their identity. Hence, Christian missionaries should be put to death.

He reminded us repeatedly that if they wanted to destroy us, they could certainly do so, as there are so very many of them in the world.

Interpretation of the Quran is forbidden except by very specific methods - i.e., one can subscribe to one of the "schools" of thought. The schools of thought vary very little in actual substance, and differ mostly in terms of process. The complete and total subjugation of women (which he would say is the honoring of women!) is a theme throughout, as is the idea that it is better to die than to turn away from the Muslim faith.

I signed up for the class hoping to dispel some of the myths I thought I might be holding about Islam. I came away absolutely terrified of it. I do not think that people understand just how dangerous this "religion of peace" is.
