I think the worst case scenario would be a doctor being sued and realizes
the note he dictated to cover the patient's care for the treatment involved
has a lot of loopholes - or that he forgot to dictate it at all - so he's
trying to cover his ass.

How many times have I heard stated here that he who writes the check makes
the rules. If I want to keep my job and the doctor tells me he doesn't
care how a certain word is spelled, HE wants to spell it his way, I'm
going to comply. Now in most circumstances I wouldn't stay working for
someone like that long.

He who writes the check makes the rules when it comes to the content of the
report - the grammar, the spelling of iffy words, etc. But this man has
admitted that he wants to use these reports to get insurance reimbursement,
and that he can't get insurance reimbursement if they weren't done in a
timely fashion. It seems to me that he's asking you to help him defraud the
insurance company. I wouldn't do it.

I would, however, transcribe his reports, give them to him on a disk, and
not feel responsible for anything he did to them after that. If you keep a
detailed log of when you did what files, I don't see where anyone could
accuse you otherwise should it come out. It likely won't, but the fact that
a wrong act probably won't be discovered shouldn't be the yardstick to
measure whether a person will do it.
